hope you enjoy this time-lapse featuring the deinstallation of “pretty vacant”. as we chipped and peeled and picked the little shreds of vinyl from the windows, i had plenty of time to say “good bye” to this installation, planned for three months and lasting two years.
temporary works are becoming all the rage in public art. i love the theatrical aspect of a large-scale work with a beginning, a middle, and an ending — an artwork that intentionally ceases to exist. here are five of my favorites in the ephemeral genre:
